TRAINING LEARNER/DRIVERS IN THE SYSTEM OF VEHICLE CONTROL
(SOVC) |
After completion of this course, a learner/driver will be able to apply the system of vehicle control in operating a motor vehicle safely and economically.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
As a result of this course, participants will:
• Recognize stationary, moving and changing hazards on a roadway.
• Operate a motor vehicle safely and economically.
• Improve his/her observation skills.
• Operate a motor vehicle with sympathy.
• Perform daily safety checks on a vehicle.
• Know the definition (purpose) of the system of vehicle control and its application.
• Be able to complete relevant documentation.
• Pass a driver’s license test for an LMV.
COURSE OUTLINE
• Knowledge of applicable legislation e.g. National Road Traffic Act.
• Purpose of the system of vehicle control.
• Responsibilities in case of an accident.
• Maneuvering skills between structures.
• Application of the SOVC systematically.
• Knowledge of road traffic signs, traffic rules and vehicle controls.
• Responsibilities in case of an accident.
• Changing a flat wheel.
• Basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems of a motor vehicle.
• Safeguarding a motor vehicle during a breakdown alongside a roadway.
• Operating a motor vehicle with sympathy, patience and understanding.
• Knowledge of freeway driving skills.
• Night driving skills and skills during adverse weather conditions.
• Skid sense to prevent vehicle from skidding.
• Information on CPR.
• Operating a fire extinguisher.
• Anti hi-jack tips and information.
TARGET GROUP
• Learner drivers who wish to obtain a driver’s license.
• Licensed vehicle drivers who wish to upgrade their defensive driving techniques.
DURATION
• Full course for learner drivers to pass a driver’s license test: 6 to 20 hours.
• Selective / full training for licensed vehicle drivers: 6 to 10 hours.
